We headed down to The Cycle Show at Alexandra Palace, London and found a few things worth shouting about – from wearable locks to pedalling on water, seriously jazzy paint jobs and an unreleased Orro bike. The show is on until Sunday 23rd April, get tickets at cycleshow.co.uk.
What’s the point in seeing cool things if you don’t tell everyone about it? Here’s a gallery of the best things we saw:
Spoon × Sam Dunn Custom paint job
Talk about a funky paintjob. This is the Spoon Customs × Sam Dunn with a seriously eye-catching machine.
Who doesn’t love a skull detail?
TentBox Cargo
My personal favourite: the TentBox Cargo. It is made from a honeycomb aluminium sheet and weighs 74kg. Oh, and just whack two bikes on the roof and job’s a good ‘un.
Squire Straplok 35
Delving into the world of wearable locks, Squire released the Straplok earlier this year.
It is a belt-style lock, 850mm in length and comes with a ten-year guarantee.
Deviate Claymore Artist edition mountain bike
Winner of the Jaw Dropper category, the Deviate Claymore Artist edition mountain bike has caught many an eye. With paintwork inspired by the Cairngorms, the number of people who have walked up to this bike and simply said ‘wow’ is innumerable.
And it’s not hard to see why – a seriously phenomenal bit of artistry on display and the tech ain’t bad either.
Orro Venturi S road bike
From a jazzy MTB to a rather more muted road bike, the unreleased Orro Venturi S. Out at the end of the month, the Venturi S boasts full carbon wheels, bar and stem, and the carbon is made ‘zero grimp’, which apparently means it doesn’t have to be layered in the same way as a traditional carbon layup.
The top-of-the-range full aero frame comes in at 960g according to Orro and the full carbon base specced with Ultegra Di2 is expected to come in at about £6,500.
Fidlock straps
Fidlock’s ties, straps and magnetic clasps offer a whole range of solutions for fitting anything and everything to your bike.
Synch S-Cargo bike
How many people do you reckon can fit on this bike? My bet is four. Matt, Synch’s founder, went with three.
Regardless, the Synch S-Cargo is quite the character with front fork suspension, a 250X Bafang rear hub and a range up to 100 miles.
Manta 5 Hydrofoil water bike
Ok, so maybe this isn’t exactly cycling, a hybrid of a pedalo and a bicycle perhaps, but still, cool.
Apparently this lets you literally ride on water. I wouldn’t say no.
