Specifically at either ends of the spectrum, the Roadlite:ON gets a sleek new full carbon frame and boost to Fazua Ride 60 power, while the Pathlite:ON takes inspiration from Canyon’s city SUV ebikes to take that possibility for adventure further afield…
Canyon hybrid ebikes evolve to move from city commutes to tours & trekking
With spring just around the corner, Canyon has refreshed their e-Hybrid lineup with new frames and powertrain boosts to make their e-city & e-touring ebikes more versatile and more capable. For the lighter tasks of zipping around town, the Roadlite:ON & Commuter:ON both get new lighter, more powerful Fazua Ride 60 powertrains. And for more hauling tasks, the Precede:ON & Pathlite:ON go with big Bosch power systems and the option for bigger batteries.
Each gets a new or updated flagship model to highlight its possibilities…
The newest of the bunch is the sleek, full carbon Roadlite:ON, a classic flat bar hybrid road build that is now powered by a more powerful Fazua Ride 60 drive unit and gets much sleeker integration. Part of that is thanks to the new Fazua system with a separate 430Wh battery tucked into its downtube, but the integration goes much further.
The Roadlite:ON features a 1-piece carbon cockpit with integral Magura brake levers that hide the hydraulics inside the bar, as well as bright 150lm built-in Supernova LED lighting, paired to a smart brake light taillight under the saddle. There’s also integrated magnetic SP Connect mounting for your smartphone over the stem, or an out-front mount for a conventional cycling GPS. And of course, no cables anywhere in sight for a super clean build.
Adapted from the road to a flat bar with quick road bike geometry, the carbon Roadlite:ON is available in 4 sizes (S-XL). This top-tier 5000€ Roadlite:ON build comes spec’d with a killer wireless SRAM Eagle AXS drivetrain for wide gearing range, and 40mm Schwalbe G-One Allround gravel tires for mixed surface versatility.
Two more affordable alloy versions of the Roadlite:ON gets similar wide gearing and Fazua Ride 60 upgrades, starting from 2900€.
Commuter:ON 7 city e-bike
The no-nonsense alloy Commuter:ON commuter e-bike gets much more of an iterative upgrade, moving to the newer Fazua Ride 60 ebike powertrain vs. the original Fazua system we saw when the Commuter:ON first debuted a few years back. At the exact same 3300€ price as before with alloy frames in either a conventional layout or a mid-step-through, you now get the more powerful motor, bigger 430Wh battery, Shimano 12sp XT drivetrain & hydraulic disc brakes, integrated lighting, secure SP Connect smartphone mount, rear rack, full-coverage fenders, and the ability to pull a trailer.
The Commuter:ON 7 comes in different sizing per frame choice: step-over (M-XL) and mid-step (S-L).
Precede:ON 7 city e-bike SUV
The Precede:ON family just made its way to the US market with its more powerful Bosch motors, bigger batteries, carbon or alloy frame options, and the ability to mount all kinds of gear onto modular front & rear rack systems that the buyer can customize to their needs. There are plenty of spec options, but one of the more interesting is the 3500€ Canyon Precede:ON 7 with an alloy frame, the higher-spec Bosch Performance Line motor, a 500Wh battery in smaller sizes/625Wh for larger riders, and a Gates belt drive turning an internal Enviolo hub gear out back for seamless shifts.
Canyon Pathlite:ON 9 LTD SUV ebike
Lastly, the Pathlite:ON, which had started life as a basic flat bar hybrid bike with a suspension fork, has now evolved into more of a do-it-all SUV e-bike seemingly inspired by the loaded-down Precede.
Much along the same lines now, the Pathlite:ON gets some new alloy frames (traditional step-over & step-through) with bigger 750Wh batteries and an adventure touring focus, plus a lighter revamped alloy frame for the 625Wh models with a new mid-step-through design and more integration, with sizing from S-XL.
The top 5500€ Pathlite:ON 9 LTD SUV gets a powerful Bosch Performance Line CX motor with a 750Wh internal battery, ant-theft eBike remote locking system, a 100mm ebike-tuned SR Suntour suspension fork, Magura MT C ABS anti-lock brakes, a SRAM X01 AXS Eagle drivetrain, a dropper seatpost, built-in Supernova LED lighting, and 27.5 wheels with 2.25″ Maxxis Crossmark tires. Plus of course, there are full coverage fenders, room for two bottles, and an integrated rear pannier rack for limitless adventure touring rides.
