Hutchinson has released new 50mm tyres across its gravel range, the largest the brand has ever made for the discipline. The tyres were previously only available up to 700×45mm.

The choice to add larger sizes was made to add more versatility to the range, allowing riders to tackle more technical terrain as well as increasing overall comfort.

Hutchinson’s range comprises three different models: the Touareg, the Overide and the most recently added Tundra. All of the tyres are tubeless-ready and intended to be e-bike-compatible.
Using the existing bi-compound material and 127 TPI casings, Hutchinson says it has uniformly scaled the new sizes to ensure the same performance as the smaller widths in the range.

The Overide is the faster-rolling option in Hutchinson’s gravel range, aimed at both trails and tarmac, with the Touareg tyre acting as all-rounder workhorse and featuring in our list of best gravel tyres. Both feature Hardskin technology, a material borrowed from MTB tyres, providing grid layered protection from bead-to-bead.

The newer Tundras is pitched at wetter, looser terrain, with a more widely spaced tread pattern and deeper knobs.

Given that the new 50mm size is creeping well into MTB territory, it’s unsurprising that Hutchinson offers suggestions for mix-and-match tyre pairings as is commonly seen on mountain bikes. These include pairing a Touareg front tyre with an Overide rear for a grippy but fast-rolling trail combination.

At £49.95 across all sizes, the Hutchinson gravel tyre range is competitively priced in a market where tyres regularly reach in excess of £80.
