Sam Culverwell is one of several new riders on the roster of AT85 – formerly WiV-SunGod – for this year, alongside the likes of Chris Lawless, Max Stedman and Kiaan Watts, a young New Zealand rider who recently placed third in the NZ Crit National Championships.
Though the team has gained several talents, they’ve lost hitters Rory Townsend, Matt Bostock and Jacob Scott to ProTour team Bolton Equities Black Spoke.
Culverwell joins from Trinity Racing at a time of sizeable change for AT85. As well as a roster overhaul, there’s the new name as well as new bike sponsors as they switch from Canyon to Dolan on a two-year bike contract.
While we’re familiar with seeing Canyons thriving in the peloton, Dolan has been quieter in recent years with more prominence on the track than on the road.
That said, the aero Ares is the brand’s top-end race bike and it’s good to see Dolan back on the pro scene. The AT85 Dolans are specced with Shimano 105 Di2 for riders’ training bikes – as shown here at the team training camp in Calpe – and Ultegra Di2 on their race bikes.
Sticking with another British brand for the wheels, the bikes are kitted out with Hunt 44 Aerodynamicists, which recently received the brand’s UD carbon spoke option. Optimised for 28mm tyres, they are fitted with corresponding Vittoria Corsa N.EXTs.
The team will be getting their power data from Rotor 2INpower cranks, who also joined as a new partner for 2023.
