Kask has today launched its latest iteration of its Utopia helmet, the Utopia Y, which it says has a better fit and more breathability than previous models. The Italian brand, which operates out of Chiudono in Northern Italy, says it has restyled its latest Utopia to be more comfortable, with a new fit system and front padding. The Utopia helmet was first launched in 2018 as the brand’s most aerodynamically efficient road helmet.
Kask was founded in 2004 and it launched its first cycling helmet in 2006. The brands prides itself on being 100% Italian, with its production chain using only local suppliers in Italy.
Kask has partnered with WorldTour team Ineos Grenadiers since 2010, with its helmets featuring on the heads of Tom Pidcock and Filippo Ganna. For the latest Utopia, Kask added the letter Y simply to differentiate it from its previous incarnation, and says the Utopia Y isn’t any more aerodynamic than the original.
The Utopia Y weighs a claimed 260g which is unchanged the original. It’s priced at £245, £26 more than its predecessor. Don’t miss our full Kask Utopia Y review.
Improved fit and comfort
The key update to the latest Utopia is the introduction of the Octofit+ system. The system includes a large rotational dial and a wide area across the nape of the neck which Kask says offers a more secure and ergonomic fit. Kask says the dial is coated in a special rubber which offers more grip and is therefore easier to use.
The structure of both the internal and external shells of Utopia Y is the same as in the original Utopia. The helmet also has Kask’s trademark faux leather chin strap.
The Utopia Y has Resistex Carbon padding at the front of the helmet, which Kask says improves comfort for the wearer. The original Utopia also had this padding, but not at the front.
Kask says the Resistex Carbon padding is breathable, quick drying and allows for better moisture dispersion to the outer shell.
The Utopia Y also has new graphics and reflective stickers, which the brand says mirrors those used by its professional teams and athletes. The brand doesn’t guarantee it will make you as fast as a pro.
WG11 safety testing
As with all Kask products, the Utopia Y has undergone the brand’s rotational impact test, WG11, which is Kask’s answer to Mips. The Kask Utopia Y is yet to be tested by the lab at Virginia Tech, so we don’t have independent data as yet.
The Utopia Y helmet comes in multiple colours including White Matt, White Shine, Black Matt and Black Shine, as well as the more striking Oxford Blue, Red and Grey.
