You saw Tom Pidcock put on a descending masterclass down the Col du Galibier. You saw SAFA Brian descending at a hair-raising 60mph. Now the pair have joined forces to produce perhaps the most spine-tingling descent video the internet has seen.
During the ‘off-season’, Pidcock stopped by Tuna Canyon in Malibu, California – labelled the ‘craziest road bike descent ever’ by Phil Gaimon – to show off his skills via the medium of SAFA Brian’s video game-like camera work, complete with live speed and gradient data.
As you’d expect, it’s a masterclass of descending, Pidcock uses ever inch of tarmac and a little bit more and his speed barely drops below 40kmh even around the road tightest bends, showing incredible trust in his tyres.
There is one moment where things could have ended very badly – don’t worry Tom, we know you had it all under control really – when his rear wheel briefly starts to slide out on a bend. Undeterred, he continues on at a steady 60kmh, turning back to let the viewer (and Brian) know it was ‘oil’.
The video is perfectly timed for everyone to predict Pidders to win Milan-San Remo, though we’re not sure Pinarello has a dropper-post compatible Dogma F.
