The Wolf Tooth Morse Cage Titanium features a namesake mounting pattern and is available in range of limited edition Cerakote finishes as tested here.
Based in Minnesota, Wolf Tooth makes a host of different products, from chainrings to derailleur adapters, including the titanium Morse Cage bottle cage shown here in the limited edition Northern Lights blue.
Wolf Tooth Morse Cage Ti design
The Titanium Morse Cage is made from hand-bent hollow titanium tubing and uses Wolf Tooth’s dot-dash-dot-dash mounting pattern, after which the cage was named, allowing 32mm of height adjustability.
With multiple frame mount holes, it was easy to find the correct height and the front barrier only covered one of the eight eyelets allowing for relatively fuss-free installation.
The limited edition collection features a Cerakote finish, which Wolf Tooth says is a ‘durable industrial-strength finish’ and, though previously found on tools and machinery, is making its way into the world of bicycle componentry.
The Cerakote finish is designed to be more corrosion and abrasion-resistant than a standard paint coating, thereby aiming to make the finish longer lasting and more durable.
The colour shown here is Northern Lights, but there are several other options such as Espresso, Olive and Purple.
Cerakote is produced in batches, with some variation in colour or sheen likely across different batches, but the two cages we received were similar in appearance on both counts.
The finish quality was excellent, with a smooth matte finish and a decorative golden hue. The tubing is neatly attached to the cage spine and the frame mount holes are cleanly cut. In keeping with the Cerakote finish, the Wolf Tooth embossed logo is highlighted in gold.
The cage has the robust feel synonymous with quality titanium products.
Wolf Tooth Morse Cage Ti performance
The wide front barrier of the Titanium Morse Cage helped guide bottles into the cage with ease, hugging the bottle well but not so tightly as to impede retrieval.
The Cerakote finish remained unchipped and scratch-free throughout testing, and did not mark any of the bottles used.
We cannot attest to the longevity of the Cerakote as this can only truly be tested over an extensive period of time and in all types of conditions. It is worth noting that grit is said to cause accelerated wear to Cerakote finishes.
The cage compares favourably in terms of weight to similar products on the market, coming in at 34g on our scales, 2g over the manufacturer’s stated weight.
The main drawback of the Titanium Morse Cage, specifically the limited edition collection, is the astronomical price. The quality of the cage is undeniable, however at ?107 for this colour it’s a decidedly decadent product.
If money is no object, the Wolf Tooth Titanium Morse Cage would be an aesthetic and beautifully crafted addition to a ride setup. If money is of any consequence, it may be best to look elsewhere.
